Hey, everyone. Mikayla here dropping by. Today, Ashley is talking to y'all about one of my favorite things: layering. Hope you enjoy!
Hi guys! It’s Ashley from Hepburn and Handbags. I’m so excited to be guest posting for Mikayla, and today I’m bringing you a few tips for mastering fall fashion.
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, because it’s the most fun season to dress for. It’s also one of the trickiest, as the seasons change and the weather becomes more and more unpredictable. It could be windy and chilly in the morning, and hot by the afternoon. The key is layers, layers, layers.
The important thing to know is how to layer without feeling too heavy or frumpy.
Opt for oversized, loose layers that won’t make you sweat and are easily removed. I love wearing sweaters with button-up oxfords, but I’m not going to awkwardly struggle to take my sweater off when it gets a little toasty. Oversized cardigans and ponchos are a better layering alternative, and add a bohemian touch to your fall look. And don’t be afraid to mix patterns- stick to a similar color palette to avoid looking too busy.

A fur vest is not only trendy but instantly elevates an otherwise simple look. Vests are my go-to in the fall, whether it’s fur, herringbone, puffy, monogrammed, etc. I can toss them over a simple long-sleeved shirt, a gingham button-up, a loose sweater, or a dress.

The ubiquitous blanket scarf is one of my favorite trends. It keeps you warm and can easily be removed without ruining your outfit. Accessorizing is key when layering- you don’t want to have too much going on. For the above look I added a few Kendra Scott rings that could be layered or spread out across your hand, bringing the whole look together without distracting the eye from the rest of the outfit.

Fall dressing can be so fun because it lets you wear so many of your favorite pieces at once! Some of my favorites for fall are vests, button-ups (in every color and pattern), colored jeans, and scarves, scarves, scarves. Play around, try new combinations, and find whatever layers work for you.
